My Hobby Is Building Dollhouses and Miniatures

I built my first Dollhouse eight years ago for a coworker. I enjoyed putting this one together, Little did I know this would become my Hobby for several years. He came up to me at work one morning and asked me if I could build a Dollhouse Kit for him. After all the kit was for his wife’s birthday and it was more than he could do. He brought it to me in two garbage bags. After measuring and marking the parts we were ready to roll with it.

This was my first build.

My First Dollhouse

The foundation had been started but it was not square. So He did not use very much glue on it, so it was easy to pull apart and start over. This one took around two months to complete. This was the Victorian Farmhouse Dollhouse kit. He gave me craft paint and used two different colors.

My Second Dollhouse

This is the start of My Great Niece’s Dollhouse. It is also the Victorian Farmhouse Dollhouse Kit. I loved putting the first one together I found this one at Hobby Lobby on sale. She was just three when I bought it but by the time I finished it she was seven. I put electric and lights and Hardwood floors in it and finished out the attic. Each room has it’s own light in it. I picked four color’s of paint and I used the exterior house paint. It was much cheaper than hobby paint.

The Porch Light is On

I painted the body pink with Maroon trim and white trim around the windows and porch. The shutters and door is trimmed out in gray paint. So it looks like someone is home. Here is a peek at the inside of the dollhouse.

Running all of the electric tape and splicing it in with all the other connections was tricky. I used the electric gauge to tell me if it was connected well. The next thing was painting over the tape runs so you could not see then. It is like after you have taped up the drywall and finishing it out so when you tape over it you can not see it. The inside paint was samples from our local Lowes store. So this is indoor house paint because it was much cheaper to use than the craft paint.

My Great Niece has really enjoyed playing with this. When I gave it to her I told her to play with it that she would not hurt it. With a bottle of wood glue and spare parts or fix what broke would not be a problem. She is now 15 and into dancing on the high school dance team and hanging out with her friends. But when she becomes that adult someday with a daughter, this will be a part of her childhood she can share with her. I’m so glad I was able to do this for her and the other 3 kids as well. If you haven’t noticed I love to put things together!
